Introduction
The Canal Greenways is a dedicated bicycle path centered around the century-old Chianan Canal, connecting the Zhuo Main Canal and the North Main Canal. It stretches from the Farming and Irrigation Artifacts Museum of the Yunlin Management Office in Linnei Township, Yunlin County, to the Fenqi Workstation of the Chianan Management Office in Guantian Township, Tainan City, making it the longest dedicated bicycle path in Taiwan. The route spans three counties (Yunlin County, Chiayi County, and Tainan City) and crosses four flumes (Puzi River, Bazhang River, Jishui River, and Guizhong River), three inverted siphons (Beigang River, Pizitou, and Nanjing), and over a hundred hydraulic structures, winding a total of 88 kilometers. This path links agricultural landscapes, cultural heritage, and industrial history, reviving the grandeur of the century-old canal. Cyclists can experience the seasonal variations in agriculture and the diverse ecological environment across the vast Yunjianan Plain. The Canal Greenways has become a leisure path that captures the lives of travelers, preserves rural culture, and highlights its importance in the development and promotion of agricultural irrigation.
